Pandemic Impacts Entrepreneuring Women at Work and Home
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all business owners. The Diana International Research Institute (DIRI) team wanted to uncover just how it impacted a specific category of business owners: women. “Women business owners have been particularly hard hit by the pandemic crisis on both the business and home fronts,” said Amanda Elam, Diana International Research Institute fellow, Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership at Babson College. The first of several pulse surveys from Babson’s DIRI was designed to better understand how women entrepreneurs are leading during this global crisis. Being Productive What Does That Really Mean?
Living a life of productivity is definitely a worthy pursuit. However, the term is thrown around so much nowadays that the actual definition has lost its importance. “Productivity” has become yet another catch phrase used in employee training seminars and self-help techniques. Many people have an obscured understanding of what it means to be productive, wasting valuable time that could be allocated far more effectively. This in due in part to the fast-paced, results driven nature of our society. We are expected to produce more in less time than probably ever before. Unfortunately, this can often have the opposite effect. More than anything else we possess; our time is our…
Why Women And Girls Matter
“It’s still too easy to make gender equality merely an ‘add on’ to [aid] programs,” says CARE Australia CEO Dr Julia Newton-Howes. Here, she outlines three approaches that have enabled change in some of the world’s poorest communities. The majority of the world’s poorest people are female. They are more likely than their brothers to miss school to help with household chores, more likely to suffer neglect and poor nutrition in childhood, more at risk of violence and sexual abuse. They are less likely to own, control or inherit assets and face many other hurdles unique to their gender. These arise because most societies value boys more than girls and…
Paul Tudor Jones Says Companies Can No Longer Exist Just To Maximize Profits
Longtime hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones on Wednesday critiqued the long-held belief that companies should exist for the sole purpose of generating profits. Jones, whose remarks came during a JUST Capital event with CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin, said it’s that philosophy that allows corporate boards to neglect issues of equity in the workplace and ultimately undermine the stability of broader U.S. society. “When you just look and say that the only thing that a company has to worry about is making a profit, it gives that company a pass not to pay attention to pay equity, not pay attention gender equity, not to pay attention to racial equality. Not to…
